  • How do I get started?
If you're interested in working together, you can reach out via email to info@picardtherapy.com and set up time for a free 15 minute consultation call. After meeting via Zoom or phone and discussing what you are looking for, and determining if it feels like a good fit, we will schedule an initial session either in-person or via telehealth. If there are no current openings, you may want to be added to a waitlist and notified of any openings.
  • What about fees and insurance?
My fee for individual therapy is $225 for a 50 minute session, and for couples/relationships the fee is $250 for a 60 minute session. I accept payment via Zelle or credit card via Ivy Pay. I reserve sliding-scale availability for 30% of my cases at any given time. You may inquire about sliding scale, keeping in mind that these spaces are intended for people who may not have access to family or earned assets, systemic privileges or advantages, and have a lower income. The Associate therapists that I supervise in my practice are able to offer lower fees. These clinicians are gaining supervised experience in order to become licensed. We meet weekly to discuss their work, and to provide support and guidance. We are not in-network or paneled with any insurance companies. If your insurance provider reimburses for out-of-network services, we can provide you with a document to request reimbursement (a "Superbill"). If you plan to do this, please consult with your insurance provider to get accurate information about what rate and percentage they will reimburse you at.
  • Where are you located?
I and the Associates in my practice are licensed or registered to work with anyone residing in the state of California. For in person sessions, my office is at 1015 Fremont Ave, Suite 7, South Pasadena, CA 91030. There is ample free street parking within one block of the office, and one flight of stairs when you enter the building, leading to a waiting room. For tele-health sessions, we use Zoom or Google Meet.
  • What is psychoanalytic psychotherapy?
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is based on psychoanalytic theories and aims to help people better understand themselves and the emotional conflicts and issues that often underlie their present challenges (anxiety, depression, disconnection, etc). In practice, psychoanalytic therapy focuses on exploring unconscious thoughts and feelings, analyzing the relationship between the therapist and patient, interpreting defenses that block emotional awareness, and addressing issues related to self-esteem. Sessions usually occur 1-4 times a week and focus on exploring a person's inner experiences, including how past events and relationships affect their current life and therapy. Research shows that psychoanalytic, or psychodynamic, psychotherapy is a highly effective treatment.
