I came to therapy as a second career, but therapy has been an essential part of my life. Growing up the youngest of five in a Catholic family, I learned early how to read a room and how to keep a lot inside. Therapy gave me a place to figure this out, and it has shown up for me again at different stages, through a demanding career in film, becoming a parent, and raising a competitive student baseball player. At each of those stages, slowing down to examine the unconscious patterns with a therapist changed things for me. That is what brought me to this work.
I am a queer parent and have spent many years in the LGBTQ+ arts community. I work with queer families, individuals, and couples navigating identity, relationships, and the pressures that come with creative and high-achieving lives. I am also drawn to working with athletes and their families, having spent several years inside the world of travel baseball as a parent.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a film director. Listening, noticing what is not being said, and creating conditions where people feel safe enough to be vulnerable were all part of the job. Those skills are vital to my work as a therapist now.
My approach is psychodynamic and relational. I am interested in exploring why you feel the way you feel, not just managing symptoms. I understand how it feels to sit in the client chair.
