Therapy

I offer individual therapy, couples and relationship therapy, and co-parenting support — in person in South Pasadena and via telehealth throughout California. My approach is psychoanalytic and relational: unhurried, depth-oriented, and built around what actually happens between us in the room.

How I approach supervision

orangesq__edited.png

I also bring a sustained focus on social and political context. Our clients' emotional lives are shaped by race, class, gender, sexuality, and power — and so is the therapeutic space itself.

Supervision, at its best, is its own kind of relational experience. The dynamics that arise between supervisor and supervisee around authority, evaluation, uncertainty, and the wish to be seen as competent are critical parts of the learning process. I try to use what happens between us to illuminate what might be happening in your work with clients.

My orientation is psychoanalytic and relational. That means I'm interested in the unconscious dimensions of clinical work: what gets activated in you by a particular client, what you find yourself avoiding. The benefot of supervision or consultation is having another observer to help us see the relational dynamics at play in our work, and sometimes, and auxiliarymind to help us think.

Ultimately, my goal is to help you develop a clinical voice that is genuinely your own — informed, reflective, and grounded in real relationship.

What to Expect

Here's what the process of starting depth-oriented therapy typically looks like.

First Step:
Free 15 minute consultation

We meet briefly by phone or Zoom to talk about what you're looking for and whether working together feels like a potential fit. There's no obligation, and it's a chance for you to ask questions too.

Getting Started:
Initial Sessions

The first few sessions are a chance for us to get to know each other and for me to understand what's brought you here. I don't expect you to arrive with a clear agenda — often the most important material surfaces on its own.

Ongoing Work:
Regular weekly sessions

Most people I work with meet weekly, at least initially. Occasionally we may decide to meet more frequently to benefit the therapeutic work. Depth-oriented therapy benefits from consistency and regularity.

Timeframe:
Open-ended, not indefinite

This kind of therapy isn't short-term by design, but it isn't endless either. We'll check in regularly about how the work is going, what's shifting, and what you need.

Session Format

Individual sessions are 50 minutes, weekly. Couples and relationship sessions may be extended. I see patients in person at my office in South Pasadena, and via Zoom or Google Meet for telehealth.

Fees & Insurance

Individual therapy is $225 per session. Couples and relationships are $250. Fees are ayable by cash, check, or Zelle. I am not in-network with any insurance, but I can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. Sliding scale is available for approximately 30% of my caseload.

The associate therapists I supervise offer sessions at reduced rates. They work with a wide range of adults, teens, and couples under my direct supervision.

Interested in consultation?

If you're looking for a space to think about your work from a psychoanalytic and relational frame or to develop your clinical practice with LGBTQIA+ patients,  I'd be glad to talk about whether I might be able to offer useful consultation.

Consultation

Licensed Therapists

I offer individual consultation for licensed therapists seeking to deepen psychoanalytic thinking, work through a complex case, or develop more nuanced affirming practice — particularly with LGBTQIA+ clients.

Available as an ongoing arrangement or for a defined period. My rate for consultation is the same as my clinical fee, but if interested always reach out to discuss format and fee. I aim to make consultation as accessible as possible.

Supervision

AMFTs, ASWs, Pre-licensed Therapists

As required by California law, pre-licensed therapists that I supervise are employed as W2 employees of my practice. Supervision is individual or triadic, weekly, and 60 minutes per session. I am a BBS-approved supervisor.

Positions open on a rolling basis. If you are interested, I encourage you to reach out even if I am not actively hiring — it is worth connecting in advance of a potential opening.

Interested in joining the practice?

Whether I have a current opening or not, I welcome inquiries from AMFTs who are drawn to this kind of work. Positions open on a rolling basis as clinicians reach licensure. Connecting early means you'll be on my radar when the timing is right.

My approach to therapy

Therapy offers us the space to be held while we do the hard work that leads to growth and transformation. Many people I see are addressing long-standing anxiety, depression, isolation, or discontent. With a curious and compassionate approach, we can understand that all suffering can be a signal that draws our attention to deeper unresolved conflict, and begin to shift.

This kind of therapy is relational and psychoanalytic — meaning we pay close attention not just to what you bring in to talk about, but to what happens between us in the room. That relationship becomes the material we work with.

Here's what that might look like in therapy:

Close listening

To what you say, what you avoid, what surfaces in the space between words — including in dreams, which I find remarkably useful.

The therapeutic relationship

How we relate to each other often mirrors earlier patterns. Rather than setting that aside, we use it — carefully, and with your consent.

Depth over speed

Understanding something deeply — and feeling it shift — takes time. We want to alleviate symptoms but not so quickly that we risk failing to pick up on what they're communicating.
